On 10 September 2025, RISC Advisory’s Martin Wilkes had a busy day delivering his thought-provoking presentation, “Energy Transition and Emissions Reductions – Some Inconvenient Truths”, at two industry conferences in Perth:
- Energy Resources Law 2025 Annual Conference at The Ritz-Carlton
- RIU Good Oil & Gas Energy Conference at The Westin
Martin’s presentation explored the complex realities behind global efforts to reduce emissions. He traced the historical timeline of international climate agreements and highlighted the persistent gap between aspirational goals and actual outcomes. While the vision of a net-zero future continues to inspire policy and innovation, Martin emphasised the inconvenient truth that global emissions have continued to rise.
On a more positive note, he showcased the United Kingdom’s success in halving their emissions from 1990 to 2023, achieved by removing coal from the energy mix.
Strong audience and community interest in Martin’s presentation reinforces the importance of grounded, data-driven approaches to energy policy and investment.
