Project Execution

Oil and gas project implementation and delivery

Success in oil and gas project execution hinges on rigorous planning, proactive risk management, and informed decision-making. Our consultancy provides independent, expert advice including project assessments, guidance in project risk analysis, schedule and costs.

RISC’s holistic methodology provides robust insights into projects

RISC’s holistic analysis of projects approaching FID and in execution enables us to identify key issues and problem areas in project execution.

  • We provide early warning of problems and their likely impact
  • We are able to identify issues and concerns with plans
  • We are quickly able to identify where project slip is occurring
  • We are able to provide an informed view on whether recovery and mitigation plans are likely to work
  • We provide a realistic range of project outcomes

RISC uses its extensive, multi-project, worldwide experience to help identify the key uncertainties and critical success factors to project development. We understand that the industry has a poor track record of project delivery, and recognise common pitfalls in project execution including:

  • Planning for success with little or no account taken for things going wrong
  • Poor use of probabilistic methodologies and analysis
  • Lack of integration of cost and schedule estimates
  • Poor use of allowances and contingencies

Project teams often carry inherent biases and/or are overconfident in their ability to understand and manage complex projects. In the last decade we have built up a record of providing independent forecasts that are more reliable and informed than the project proponents’ and operator’s own forecasts.
