In its latest quarterly activities report, Thor Energy announced it is progressing exploration efforts in South Australia, following an independent assessment by RISC Advisory on the Company’s natural hydrogen and helium prospective resources.
Through its acquisition of Go Exploration, Thor Energy now holds RSEL 802, a hydrogen and helium exploration licence that covers an area of South Australia considered prospective for both gases. In December 2024, Thor announced that it had engaged leading energy advisory firm, RISC Advisory, to undertake the independent assessment of natural hydrogen and helium resources within RSEL 802 (formerly PEL 120). The results have now been delivered, providing Thor with valuable input for decision-making.
Natural hydrogen exploration
While natural hydrogen exploration is still in its infancy globally, South Australia has provided some encouragement for explorers. Historical reports indicate the occurrence of gaseous hydrogen from bore holes Minlaton Oil Bore-1 on the Yorke Peninsula and American Beach Oil-1 on Kangaroo Island, findings that merit further exploration.
